Digital Banking - Safari 8 Clearing History\Cache\Cookies

6/26/15

Safari 8 clearing history process has recently changed

Good Afternoon!

I just want to make you aware of a potential call driver regarding Online Banking and Safari 8.  In Safari 8, Apple did away with the old path to clear history. The new path is as follows:

History > Clear History & Website Data

The problem with this new option is that it not only deletes history, but also clears the cache/cookies in Safari. In previous versions of Safari, history and cache/cookies were separate options.   Because this is now a combined option, if users clear their history with this path, they will be asked to complete MFA upon their next login. A workaround for users who want to clear their history, but not be authenticated every time they login to Online Banking, is to do the following:

History > Show History > A new tab opens in Safari that has user's history > Delete sites individually

This will remove the user's history, but keep the cache/cookies intact so authentication will not be required upon next login.

Additional information about the new deletion path can be found here: https://support.apple.com/kb/PH19215?locale=en_US
